noise/denoise (2011) was commissioned by the Centre for Contemporary Asian Arts (Centre A) in Vancouver. The work was comprised of 8 looping cassettes in shoebox tape players with the eject button disabled. Participants were invited to lie on a waterbed to physically manipulate the *mix* of sonically and culturally ‘denoised’ sounds.

The ‘denoised’ sounds were created by using noise-reduction-algorithms applied to sound captured by Vancouver New Music CoLab workshop attendees, within Vancouver’s large and noisy Chinatown neighbourhood. The edited sound files were recorded to looping cassettes for the installation.
